88 Hp Johnson

I have a 88 Hp Johnson outboard and I am having trouble with the tilt and trim. The kids were playing in the boat and raised the motor all the way up and now I can not get it to go down. I hear the motor running when I hit the switch but it does nothing. No pins or locks are in place to keep it from coming down. What else could it be?? Could one of the batteries be weak and this is preventing it from being lowered or what? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

there is a manual release screw on the left side (looking from the back to the front), unscrew it a tad and it should "catch"...... had it happen to mine before....... might need to hold the trim down and "Bounce" the motor..... then whip the kids' a$$.....*****
