7-18-09 Big Lake
Went out to the rigs southeast of big lake saturday morning. Caught 33 nice trout, few mackerel, bunch of sheephead, and few sharks. Had all trout by 6:45am. The bite slowed down so decided to head back in to Big Lake to try and finish our limit. Got to jetties and there were at least 50 boats there. Then headed north towards 9 mile cut. Could see about 10 boats around old jetties from ship channel. And counted 26 boats at 9 mile cut. So i decided i wasnt fighting all that mess and just headed in with my 33 trout, 12 short of our limit. Tried up loading pics but it is saying they are too big and i have to resize them.

They are about 7 miles out to east of jetties. Just bounce from rig to rig until find them. Look for the older rigs. Here are pics.

Pompano or Permit, but never seen one so yellow.
They are more silver w/black fins. |
hey whats some good ideas to target pompano???
awesome catch btw |
pretty sure its a permit. my buddy wanted to keep it. i just dont eat all that stuff. prob caught 10 spanish mackerel, let them all go. people say they good, but ill stick with the trout. Bunch of huge sheephead also, one bit me the other day hurt like a motha! had about a 5 to 6 foot black tip shark smoking our trout when we were getting them to top. i hooked him and almost took me over my trolling motor. luckily he broke off before he snapped my rod. you can see teeth marks in 3rd fish from bottom on my 2nd pic.
