Trolling Motor Project

I finally finished my detachable mounts for my trolling motor. I really like how it turned out.

Looks good, is that just for travel purposes?

In the back for long boat rides, in the front to fish. Trolling motor in the back will give you up to 4 mph depending on your hull.

Hmmm did not know that! Looks like it came out pretty nice, good job!

It's always a good idea to pick it up out the water when running.

I've always seen the tourney guys do this......I figured its cause they're running wide open in nasty waves and don't want the TM bouncing around up there??

longsidelandry 03-03-2011 07:49 AM

Here's the way I see it going down...

You put your trolling motor on the back deck of the boat to get where you're going then when it's time to fish you bring it up to the bow but as you're going to mount it on the plate.......badoosh!!!!!! Into the water she goes! Then you have 2 trolling motor mounting brackets with no trolling motor!

Mine goes 42mph...if I forget to pull it up!!!!

Once upon a time, about 25 years ago on Toledo Bend, my brother in law, my sister and me were fishing Bass. When we decided to move to another spot, we took off.
I saw a battery pass from the back of the boat to the front of the boat real fast.
We forgot to pull up the trolling motor. It ripped off the front deck and into the water. Cables between it and the battery pulled the battery to the front of the boat.
The battery got stuck at the front deck, that's all that kept us from losing the trolling motor.
On the way home, I was sitting at the passenger window of the truck, counting my money to see if we had enough to get gas to get home and somehow the wind took all my money out of my wallet and into the woods. We recovered about $40 of the $100 I had left.
Then we broke a trailer axle spring. We used ropes to get the axle back where it belonged and limped to a cross roads gas station that looked like Fred Sanfords yard.
We told the owner our spring issue and he looked around and found a single leaf spring that would fit, but we only had $40 and we needed most of that for gas to get home.
He said if we filled up the truck with gas, he would change out the spring for free. We took the deal and I decided to never fish with that brother in law again and to never drink Busch beer again either.
I don't know how fast the boat would go with the trolling motor in the water, but it sure can make a mess.

I have a detachable mount like that but just on the front. Take TM off when i take family boat riding/water skiing. Very nice.
