Here are some pics of a Marlin that died after impailing it's bill in a 24" oil transfer line off the coast of Africa. The line is used to offload crude oil to tankers and several marlin have been seen using the floating hose as a "corral" to catch baitfish. Looks like this guy should have "zigged" when he "zagged"!

I'd say that the rubber is at least 4" thick. Also notice, he went through it at an angle so I bet he penetrated every bit of 6 inches of rubber! WOW!
