Any suggestions on where to go catch some bream with a young one close to home (lake Charles) in the morning?

Not sure if it's too far for you but the burnt out bridge in Vinton. My kids loved it out there when they were young. Plenty of bank to walk up and down and fish

No I don't. I have not fished out there in several years. I mainly just fish saltwater but I may need to make a trip some fried bream and perch sound good.
