Oilman's Saltwater Championship

Anyone else on here has a dog in this fight?

Oilman's Saltwater Championship - June 23-25, 2011
Calcasieu Point Landing

We will be running the "OutFoxed" and I plan on departing around 4am and running to the Flower Gardens for some bluewater action.

Just seeing if anyone else will be going.

Not me, but it sounds like a good time!

is this different from the oilman's rodeo held in cocodrie

Finfeatherfur 04-29-2011 10:42 PM

Yes, way different than the Houma Oilman's!!!! Been there, done that - got the candy wrapper!!!

They have inside and outside catagories, so let it fly!

The Flower Gardens are a marine sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles out of Cameron. They have multiple charter boats that are regulars out there from Galveston. It is a natural coral reef system containing acres of coral reefs coming up as shallow as 60'. If you are into diving, this is a must have on the divers "bucket list". Google it or go to Youtube for videos. The NMFS has a whole website dedicated to this ecosystem and I have been 4 times. Lots of good fishing and diving, but it's a long, long run.

So in other words, unless you bring a fuel barge in tow, nope - don't think the 19' cc will make it.

Sorry Shawn, our company entry fee was $3K and all the spots are filled. So without a wrist ban, you won't even get into the parties! - Yeah, I know - SUCKS!

And we have elected to make this a "couples" trip so the ladies can smoke the women's division (hopefully)!

LPfishnTIM 04-30-2011 12:05 PM

sounds cool, I'd like to see pics of your catch, Good luck!

Dink 04-30-2011 12:18 PM

Montauk17 04-30-2011 04:35 PM

Sounds fun. I have been on a few dive trips and have always wanted to go to flower gardens. Long boat ride...

LaAngler 04-30-2011 04:45 PM

link to a flyer with fees/rules?

Finfeatherfur 04-30-2011 06:29 PM

Their site must have been revamped over the last week or so........and it really, really sucks - BAD! Not sure what they are thinking. But anyway, I will post their web address here. I will also scan and upload the paper registration form on here on Monday since it is at my office.

Did you go with a guide? I would like to check that out one day.

bsoileau 04-30-2011 11:12 PM

When I was in college worked at true blue watersports and they would make and book the trips. Check them out, they might be still doing it.
