"Waving for James" Benefit/Fundraiser

I'm sure alot of people on this site knew James Verret. He was an avid boater and offshore fisherman. He was Captain of his boat, Anchor Management, which he took out every chance he could. He was a great guy that loved to talk to and teach something to everybody he met. James recently lost a 10 year battle with brain cancer. In 2001 after being hospitalized from a car wreck, they found a massive tumor in his brain. He survived 10 years with multiple brain surgeries, and even right down to his last days he never lost that spirit that everyone loved.

One of James's random passions was having "wave parties", which is literally sitting in chairs in the front yard drinking beer and waving at every car that passes buy. Its fun and it puts a smile on the face of strangers going down the road brightening their day. So in honor of James we are having a wave party and fundraiser.

The event will be tomorrow from 12-6 at 2728 West Prien Lake Rd, Lake Charles. The house is on the corner where you turn to go to the prien boat launch if coming from wal mart. Across from the massive new church. There will be food, drinks, DJ, a giant water slide, fun jump, face painting, a live and silent auction, and of course.....waving. Auction items include: Guided fishing trips to Big Lake and Toled Bend, a full weekend stay at a Toledo Camp, Guided duck and goose hunts, concert tickets, golf lessons, lawn services, framed artwork, Mcneese and LSU memoribilia, massages, car washes, dinner at a chef's house, massive bbq pit, kayak, DJ services, shlitterbahn passes, dog training sessions, window tint, xbox 360, and much more. Parking will be at the big church on the corner.

All proceeds will go to help James's wife Leah and his 2 young kids, Jackson and Madie, with bills and whatever other needs that they need met. So please come out and help us honor a great man and a great fisherman tomorrow! And dont forget, bring your chair for the wave party!

Its a blast wavin. Its a pretty busy intersection so you stay busy. Then you can play drinkin games like certain vehicles you drink or someone pullin a boat. But for real guys this is a good thing we are doin here. If you are comin off the water or somethin just come stop by for a minute. Drink a beer, eat some jambaylaya, buy an auction item or make a donation. Really the main point of this is the wave party to remember James, fundraising is just a great bonus. Just come hang out no obligations to cough up dough. (unless you want)

Its gonna be an amazing sight to see that many people sittin on the side of the road waving. So if you cant come by at least drive buy and give us a honk. You can tell by the amount and the quality of the items being donated how much of an affect James had on people he met. I was there til almost dark today setting up and people were still coming by and dropping off stuff. Anyone that wants to come its gonna be pretty obvious where we are at. Apparently the cars that were going to be in the car show at contraband decided that they are gonna come set up atthe church parking lot instead. So there may be about 35 show cars at the event. We are hoping for a large turnout so hope to see yall there. Thanks to all that make it out.

Lake Chuck Duck 05-07-2011 07:40 PM

We were able to raise around $11,000. I feel like we could have raised more but we appreciate all that was contributed. I was able to win a duck hunt for 4 for $200. That would have gone for 2 grand at other auctions. We are still taking donations so anyone that would be interested in making a donation can PM me. Thanks to all that came by today.
