Ice chest hinges...

My plastic hinges keep breaking on the Coleman icechest... anyone out there has found some better hinges that will last more than 2 seasons? Any pics?

Leather

Pretty sure you can order stainless hinges on the Coleman website. Check it out. If I remember right they weren't much more than the plastic ones.

Mine do the same thing. The best thing i found was leather. I use an old belt and cut me some pieces.

I cut up an old leather belt and made hinges.

Get a yeti.... No more problems.:)

I replaced hinges & drain plugs for years on igloos, colemans etc.

Got my 1st yeti 3 years ago.... No problems and I treat it ruff.

For a cheap fix cut a old rubber hose 4 inches long and slice down middle. Screw it in like you would a leather belt.

Hebert 05-22-2011 10:11 PM

rubber sheeting or leather...you'll never have to change a hinge again !

Dink 05-22-2011 10:18 PM

Use a hose or a tow strap. Cute to size and screw on........also, replace the strap on the inside with a spring. It'll hold the top open for you!!

I have found a Nilon strap material works great. Been using this one for ~4 years now.

I use this ice chest when I go turkey hunting. The [almost new] plastic hinges would make a loud "creeking" noise when the lid was opened..... that had to be corrected. The nilon hinges don't make noise.

You guys remeind me of my dad. As a kid I remember every broken cooler hinge had some time of material holding it together in its place. Now, I just leave them broken. Sometimes its nice just to remove the whole thing. I will get around to fixing them sometime I guess.
