Opinions on Motor size

Ok, my Brother just bought a boat and he is thinking of putting a bigger mudmotor on it and I wanted everyones opinion before doing alot of research. It is a 14ft 1983 Loweline (Lowe) wide flat bottom boat. It currently has a 20hp long-tail and he is thinking of putting a 27hp short-tail on it. What do ya'll think? Just looking for opinions to focus my search on the internet. I believe he likes Gatortail the most. Thanks

Not asking what brand is better just if ya'll think a 27hp will work on that size boat.

Just make sure the transom is beefed up enough that it can handle a surface drive.
