My father-in-law sent me this Pic.....the title " 36" Trout, 18pounds, new TX record.

I googled it and could not find any supporting articles.....could anyone shed some light?

Furthermore If this is true it should beat the world record of 17.7 caught in FLA.

If I remember correctly, it was on a Spook somewhere around Jacksonville.

I can guarantee that when this record is broken...you will know about it. ;)

There was a big article in Louisiana Sportsman when the record was caught. Here's what I remember about it...

This dude and his dad had been wading the mangroves around Stuart, FL. They hadn't caught anything in two days. Late in the day on the third day, he cast a Producer Ghost (a knock-off Spook) past a mangrove and began workin' it back. The fish hit it, he fought it and managed to land it. Both he and his dad agreed it was a snook. They took pics, took it to a friend's grocery store to weigh it, took more pics and then proceeded to take it home, clean it and eat it. When they found out it was a trout and not a snook, they began inquiring about this species and found out they possibly had eaten a world's record fish. After getting in contact with the right people, to make a long story short, the IGFA recognized it as a new world's record because of the detailed pics, the fact that it was weighed on certified, calibrated scales, and, all of the witnesses present......none of which even knew what kind of fish it was. ;) I have no doubt that this fish was as big as they claimed. It was friggin' huge!! Maybe I'm just jealous that a clown like this caught, truly, a fish of a lifetime...anyone's lifetime. Since the fish was not actually measured before eaten....officials had to guess at the length by looking at the pics and conparing it to pics of other fish.

The previous record was 16 lbs. 6 oz.

There's an article in LAS if you'd like to check out the accuracy of this story. :)

Still got a couple of those "Ghosts".

YellowMouth7 06-01-2011 10:27 AM

Man-o-Man,

And to think their are so many of us who fish so much and speciifcaly target big trout....to have a dude that cant tell the diff between a trout and a snook to hold the WORLD RECORD makes me sick....dont get me wrong I dont dislike the guy.....just needs to be held by someone who has devoted their life to "THE QUEST FOR THE ONE"

Its like the TX state record largemouth on Fork....the dude was Crappie fishing with a jig and boated an 18lb monster......also when George Perry caught the world record bass he ate that 22.4lb hawg.....but I can understand way back then you had to eat what you caught.
