Everyone within a 5 mile radius of the explosion is being asked to evacuate. Everyone else, stay indoors or stay away until investigators can figure out what the chemicals are.

First responders are responding to an explosion at Multi-Chem in New Iberia 3401 West Admiral Doyle Drive. Lt. Ryan Turner with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office says residents are asked to stay inside until investigators can figure out exactly what chemicals are burning.

Witnesses are reporting multiple, visible fireballs and area businesses tell KATC they've evacuated. According to Multi-Chem's website offers oilfield products, gas well treatments and pipeline solutions designed to enhance production.

KATC has a crew on scene and will have information as it becomes available.

7 news in Lake Charles just reported that everyone is accounted for.....I sure hope so.

yeah i saw that on the news. the guy that took the pic works next door to multi chem said it wasnt as bad as it looks. more of a fire than a explosion. gave people enough time to clear the area.

we were working right down the road from there today,prolly only about a mile away.

I work about a 1/2 mile away on the air base. You could hear the different containers blowing up from time to time. At first I thought it was thundering. A guy come in the shop and says there is a fire with some explosions going off down the street. We are now waiting on word to go back to work. Watch out there will be an extra 1,000 crazy people running arround today, I will be one of them. Its nice to have a little extra time off of work, but i hate to get it this way.

Friend from another site works next door to the explosion site. they had to evac. thru a back door . figures the truck along w/ wallet and pistola are toast.

He hasnt been able to get back to check his vehicle? Man thats sucks not knowin if it got burnt or not.

Insurance, man! If it were my arse being ok and not knowing bout the truck, I'd be alright with it!

Heck, my truck was stuck in N.O. airport for almost 3 weeks after Katrina! Gave me a good reason to pull some serious seat time on the ol Harley!:cool:
