Holly Beach Saturday

Taking my wife, 4 year old and 15 mo old daughters to holly beach area saturday to get out of the house and let them search for sea shells. Does anyone know if there is a store/deli in holly beach or johnsons bayou or is hackberry the last stop?

Used to be a store in Johnson Bayou. But it's gone now.

There was 2 in JB and 2 in Holly Beach before Rita.
None now in either place.
There is talk about one going up in JB one of these days.
But better get what you need in Hackberry before going down.

There are 1.5 convience stores in Cameron.

I buy a bunch of my baits from their. Normally their prices are comparable.

Ok, made it to Holly beach with my wife and 2 daughters. Got there and as predicted the wind was blowing 20-25. Water was chocolate milk muddy and the rotting seaweed smell just about gagged us all!:puke:

Anyway, made home base for the day with rear door of tahoe and a beach umbrella. Acually went in that nasty water cause my 4 yo insisted it would be ok. Seaweed everywhere.

oh well, at least she enjoyed it an does not know the difference between that and destin, fl yet.

Sure are some nice camps going up down there though.

evidrine 06-18-2011 09:16 PM

Man, you sholda gone a last weekend. No seaweed and the water was nice. Looks like you still had fun though. Thats all that matters.

BIGJ 06-18-2011 09:48 PM

Man, that seaweed looks nasty. The beach is dirty. The last time I went it was pretty clean.

When you see seaweed mats floating around, there are Trouts hanging around them.
The Trout fishing at Rutherfords beach is real good when you see seaweed floating around.

That maybe true.....but how do you catch them when your bait gets hung-up in the grass 2 seconds after you make the cast? Poping cork????

This past week.... it was not mats of seaweed, more like lots and lots of small clumps. The seaweed would get caught on the line and when you worked the bait...it got hung up on the seaweed.

Ray 06-19-2011 12:56 PM

Popping cork outside the grass. Attract to fish to your lure.

The only thing they have in Holly Beach that I know of is Meaux's Seafood, its about 2 or 3 miles east of the "T". Just a little camper with a seacan and a walk in cooler. He sells cold drinks, chips, candybars, ice, frozen bait and live crabs. During the week he doesn't open until late morning cause him and his wife is out running crab traps, but on the weekends sometimes she will stay and open the store up earlier in the morning.

That's some rough stuff there.
I know this week in Galveston, they are telling people not to get in the water cause of the bad rip currents and undertow. Already had a couple people drown last month when the wind and seas were so bad.
Glad to see yall had a good time.
