Question about GPS / Chartplotter maps

I have a Humminbird 786ci Chartplotter. It comes with Humminbird Unimaps installed on it but you can upgrade to the Navionic HotMaps Premium by purchasing a SD card. Has anyone ever bought these upgraded maps? Are they much better than the stock Unimap?

I have a Hummingbird 3something that came with my boat, and it isn't near the GPS as my Garmin with down load maps that is on my big boat. The one with Navionics and downloads show depths, numbered buoys, wrecks, hazards and everything you get on NOAA navigation charts.

I have the Navionics SD card. Its a big difference when you have it. Just make sure it has the lakes that your fishing installed in there. It has alot of info about big lake and all.... but if you fish lakes like sam rayburn, toledo, fork.... its extremely helpfull.... I think its worth the 100 dollars for the regular one... I dont know much about the platinum card tho...

Personally i think its worth the money..

Thanks. I was debating on getting a card. My unit accepts the premium map not the platinum. I don't suppose you can copy the data on someones SD card & put it on a blank?

Another question. The Navionics upgrade maps. Which has more detail on Big Lake? Hotmaps premium or Navionics Gold? I see that the Gold has offshore stuff, hotmaps is just for lakes. I'm mainly concerned with Big Lake though.

Hummingbirds are good.. What I like about the Garmins is the color...Someone once told me this. Hummingbird is best for fishfinder. Garmin best for GPS. Lowarance good for both.
