We used to use golf shoes in the surf in grand isle.......you could see them at night with a good light.....walk up slow, stomp on em and put em in the bucket

To answer your question......you don't need a barb, but don't know if having one is illegal.

U can use barbs.

I have been twice and both times we had barbed gigs. only got one on the first trip and nada on the second trip.
