Biggest Rookie Mistake of my life.. (Drum are gamefish in Texas apparently)

Fished the sabine dogfight tonight, and scratched on bass but caught a 4 lbs gar for the trash fish pot. Well we got to weigh in, and the guy in front of me weighed in a 6 pound black drum.. So I asked my partner if we should even weigh in and we both agreed no. So I walked and released the gar. Well I come back and the Drum was DQ'd because it is a game fish in Texas.. Moral of the story we lost out $75 due to Drum Being a game fish in Texas.. Always weigh your fish in guys unless it's for sure lol

Only in Texas :rotfl:

I believe your only allowed to keep one gar a year in texas also.

Fool I did the same thing in a tourney this past Sat... caught a nice gar and without hesitation threw him back only to later realize that there was a trash fish prize lol. placed 5th. 7.06 was the winner for that day. conditions were rough.

I told them this is a game fish in Johnson Bayou..Trust me I've ran lines quite a few times for gar down there!

I threw back a small Gafftop at the Cameron Fishing Festival one year.
No one weighed in any Gafftop. I coulda won first place.
Never caught one during a tournament since then...
