i wanted to see what you guys thought about my new anchor. i asked my inlaw if he could make me a marsh anchor for my boat. this is what he brought me a few minutes ago. its all stainless steal and about 6 feet tall. i think its pretty damn cool. i was wandering what you guys think if he made one out of alluminum. i gonna give it a try soon. this was just a prototype so any info would help.

looks good, only problem is that aluminum is lite! that SS pole is heavy and it holds!

Alum. is just a little lighter. It might not go into the mud as far as stainless.
A few inches won't hurt.

SS is the only way to go!

Is it a solid rod or pipe ? I've seen the one that is solid aluminum rod and it seemed to be fairly heavy .

what he want for one cost wise

It's a ss pipe and the point is a solid rid he welded and the shaped to a point. It's pretty heavy.

I will ask him in the am. We were gonna price the difference in aluminum and ss. It did not take him long to weld everything. He is pretty good with metals.

Bro thats sick. Go stainless. It will last.

What do you think the weight is of the rod? What diameter is the rod? What will you use to secure it in the boat while running?

iron man 06-30-2011 10:46 PM

Looks good.

I would stay with the stainless. Will corrode less long term and heavier.

Titanium works really good also.

It will not stick on good reefs and will not hold in strong tides and wind....
