Henderson

My husband and I fished Henderson a few hours each day for the past 4 days and had a total of 248 fish - sacalait, goggle-eye and bream. It was an awesome weekend to be able to fish every day!! There were plenty of potlickers on the lake also!! Ready for some saltwater now!!

Nice catch, with the water falling the fish have really turned on.

Jo-boater 07-04-2011 10:47 PM

did you catch them on live bait or jigs?

wetaline 07-05-2011 11:31 AM

Bream on crickets under a cork 2 feet down and sacalait and goggle-eye on blue/white and orange/brown jigs under a cork.

i'm thinking the same thing.

Just a heads up.....the public ramp has been getting choked off with littlys alot latley. Makes it very tough to load and unload. I suggest you use the private launches on the south side. I launch at cypress cove often, good people!

Thanks. I think I might take out the ole canoe today. Its been a while since I used it. Should be fun.

Good luck to anyone who goes the bite was off yesterday. I fished from 5:30 to 4:30 and I caught less than ten bream and google eye. I bought a hundred crickets and cold worms and I maybe used ten crickets and three worms. I talked to a guy who had caught and kept 97 sacalait on monday and he had only 14 yesterday all day. The few fish that are there seem t be under the big mats of floating hycinths.

wetaline 07-07-2011 10:19 AM

My son told me about an old guy who fishes Henderson. He uses an extendable paint pole with an empty roller to make a hole in the hyacinths and fishes the hole. Guess that's like ice fishing for us - lol !!! Headed out there again this weekend. Hopefully the bite will be on again.

My dad went this morning and stayed for like 3 hours and left. Fish dead and piping all over. Bass, bream, sacs, cats, spoonbill, shad everything he said

evidrine 07-07-2011 11:33 AM

Had not fished Henderson since the Morganza opened and gave it a try today. Launched the yak at 6am public landing and headed north first turned around and headed south. Found clear/black dead smelly water starting at the launch and everywhere I went. No bites but a couple of gar hitting a spinner bait. Lots of boats riding around and saying the same thing. Some said they did very good last week but the same areas now have dead water. When leaving noticed schools of mullets on the surface everywhere gasping for air. Wish I had better news to report.
