Boat question

I am 'forced'http://www.refugeforums.com/refuge/i...lies/laugh.gif to buy a new boat! The boat is for working purposes, and the boat will have to go through shallow water at times. Just got the go ahead for a surface drive or a longtail type motor. I have about 10K to spend on boat, motor, and trailer. No need for speed or anything, but jsut something big enough to push a a 15 - 16foot flat bottom boat (possibly an Xpress). Like I said, I will be working out the boat on occasions, so need a wide flat bottom for gettin in and out the boat and carrying multiple people and lifting heavy things over the side at times. I have used go-devils in the past, but what about the new surface drives? Prices? I need the experts to design me a boat;)

With that budget I would have a hull built and put a Prodrive or a Gatortail on it.

Call Kyle @Gator-Tail and tell him what you want to do with the boat. I am certain he will have an idea you will love.

If you are building call Casey at sportsman fab in MC. Great work and good prices.

Deff go with a surface drive...I'd go go-devil or pro drive...surface drives do great things on wide boats

Xpress with a mud motor is a bad idea. Try to find a shop built boat or a boat made for a mud motor. I would look around for a good used rig.

I've got a boat that I'm considering selling. It has a 40 Merc on it and I've worked the heck out both of em! The hull was built by a guy in Sorrento, name pronounced "go-day"...I can't spell it! :rotfl: If you want to try it out to see if you like the hull, drop me a line. You are welcome to try it out. The guy builds awesome equipment! I know there are more here that can testify to his building capabilities.

Again, you are welcome to take mine and test ride it if ya want. It sounds close to what you are looking for, as far as hull goes. 17.5'x4'x2'(height). 3/16" thickness and a 6" catwalk.

if you only have 10k to spend, better start looking at some used stuff!! A new surface drive is gonna eat that 10k up pretty quick!!!

He builds some fine boats

Gaudet......you frickin Yankee!

10K is not going to tough a new surface dive. I have owned both Pro drive and gator tail and and would not buy another gator tail again. The reverse does not work worth a $hit in the mud. I have the prodrive now and would not look back. As far a boat builders best bang for th buck now is Jason Romero with UncleJ boats in Morgan City (281) 216.7848 Tell him Travis told you to give him a call. Im not nocking the other builders but for the price with Jason you get the same thing for about 1k less and he will build the boat like you want it not like he wants to build it.

If you need info about surface drive and you have thick skin go here, other wise stay away from that site.
Prodrive are good in soft bottom mud but hard bottom they will want to bounce on you. Godevil is simple without anything but start and go. Mudbuddy you are on your own. Gatortail will get you out if you know how to drive it.
