Tohatsu 40 HP TLDI

Just bought a 40 HP TLDI. I know with the old carbureted tohatsu 40's you could bump them up to a 50hp. Is there anything you can do with a TLDI 40 to get a little more out of it?

Lake Area marine will do it or if you bought it there it may be done, there is somethin in exhaust they take out. How do you like the motor, I am thinking of getting one next time.

I'd like to know how you like it also, it's next on my list. My 89' 25 merc doesn't push the 16x48 the way I would like.

Thanks, but I already got a little boat. :D. Now if you just want to see what your motor will do on it, we can make that happen. The 16x48 has a jack plate so we can set it where ever you need. I also have a gps in it so we can see what it will do.

EVO

Its very easy to make it into a 50 hp, look at the air intake it has a screen over what looks like a flat washer behind the screen. The guys at Lake Area showed me. Stick a screw driver in it and pop it out. Takes all of 5 seconds. I did it to my brothers motor. Made a big difference. If you go to Lake area walk to the back and ask a mechanic he will show you.

Awesome. That's what I was hoping for. Basically flipping a switch and getting 10 HP. Thanks.

I know five people from work that have that motor and they all like it. If you buy it from Lake Area they will pop out the restrictor for you, but I think it's fairly easy to do.

Chuck Allen, Allan Cooley, Ally Dupre and Harvey Daigle. All of them get barely over 30 with two people and gear except for Rodney.

Supposedly the new HPDI style Tohatsu they just got is capable of the same thing. There is simply an air restrictor plate in the intake they remove

Natural Light Kid 07-26-2011 09:27 PM

Does anyone have experience with boyesen reeds in these motors?
