Saltwater Fly Fishing Rig

Can anyone recommend a saltwater fly fishing rig that is affordable and will handle trout. Its something I would like to try but not break the bank.

A good flats rig is expensive unless you find a good deal on a used one. What size motor you wanting to run?

Sorry I ment rod and reel. I'm looking for one that will hold up in saltwater.

Reddington crosswater makes a decent entry level rod and reel combo. It comes already pre rigged with backing and a weight forward floating line. If your going to target just trout a 6-7 weight combo would work fine. You can get the Reddington combos at bass pro shops for less than $150

Also Academy has an Okuma 8 weight combo for $100. This is what i bought when i first started out and is a decent combo to get you going

what kind of drag does that set up have? will it handle big reds and trout or should u get a 8 to 10 weight rod?

I sell rods that are far superior to anything you can get for the same price. PM me if interested.

I had a Temmple Fork Outfitters 9 weight and reel. Not sure brand of reel. Very good rod for the price.

The TFO TiCR is $250 on cabelas site

8weight is plenty for upper slot reds. If you are gonna target the big bulls you might need a 9-10

jchief 07-26-2011 09:04 PM

8 or 9 weight would do you.

Temple fork makes some nice rods for the money. Im waiting on that new Gloomis pro4x to hit the market

calcutta37 07-26-2011 09:08 PM

Are these rods 2 piece or 3?

Mediumheavyaction6'6 07-26-2011 09:09 PM

mine are 3 with an extra tip piece in case it breaks. comes with a case as well

Mediumheavyaction6'6 07-26-2011 09:09 PM

case holds reel and rod together

I have one of the rods Lucas sells. Very high quality rod for the money. The case and extra tip it comes with are a bonus as well. You cant go wrong with this rod

When you come back to work Jason? I can bring my setup and show it to you hands on. I have 1 of Lucas's rods and I'll put it in my truck tomorrow morning when I get home. I'll be here all week on nights.
