Do ya'll think it would be better to hit the island's beach itself or Elmers Island (i think its open correct me if i am wrong)?

elmers island is definitly open...not sure what would be more productive...headed done there next week as well.

If it were me, I'd hit up Elmer's surf 1st and even fish the spots along the gravel road going onto the beach at Elmer's. You may score on some redfish. If nothing there, then hit the surf on the east end and go to the rocks. Live shrimp may be best as the sun gets up. Topwater and plastics in the morning.
All the crowd should be gone or leaving by Monday.

Nephew went Fri, but the a/c was out at brudinlaws camp. Guess no one is going to stay there for a while now.

Ray 07-31-2011 03:10 PM

You can drive on elmers but i have heard of folks in 2wd trucks getting stuck in some places (soft sand) take a bucket an a shovel just in case.

Well, Just got back form the Island. Had a decent trip numbers wise caught a lot of white trout and channel mullet on everything i threw at them except live bait. All fish caught were tiny replicas of each other. I don't know what i was doing wrong could not get a fish over 12 and no specks either. We hit Elmers and tore up the white trout on every soft plastic in the box bumping it on the bottom. Used Live shrimp and only sail cats and hardheads. all in all it was a fun trip. Water was a little dirty and HOT! Like bath water.
