Jack Plate trouble

My one yr old Bob's Jack Plate refused to come up. It will go down but not back up. The switch is working because you can hear a click/pop when you try to make it go up. Someone said that it is probably a selinoid. Anyone have first hand experience with this problem?:pissed:

Thanks, I called and I need to get them a serial number and it might be covered. Damn thing is only 1 yr old and it is hardly used. SHould have lasted longer.

No problem....You get what you pay for is not very accurate these days, unfortunately. Almost seems like everything is built with a certain life expectancy.

It probably is the solenoid, you can check this by jumping accross the two top or outer post with a scewdriver. I don't remember which one is the up. But FYI prepare yourself because it will make a pretty good arc when you short across them. Also I would go ahead and change both of them since you are already there. I would recommend you take it to Doug at Bowtie Marina in Lake Charles, he changed mine a couple weeks ago, it can be a little bit rough to do if your pump is not that accessable.

You could just unplug the solenoids and swap them to check if the up one is bad.

Or.....try tapping on the solenoids [the solenoid should be a the size of a 1" cube]. The contacts in them sometimes stick and tapping on them will usually make them work again....for the next couple of times you use the trim.

Changed mine twice in the last 4 years, just recently in fact, and it still gets stuck occasionally! looking at the pump the one on the left should be the down side. You can try flipping your blinker switch relatively fast to see if it will break free, if not change it out. Bob's did waranty mine both times, and also two lift plate guages. If you do decide to change it yourself, be sure to dissconect the positive lead on the cranking battery, and then reconect when finished. Also when your finished spray some kind of electrical coating on the terminals to keep them from corroding, it seems to help mine not act up as much being in the bildge area!

I did jump the two posts to confirm it was the solenoid. Anyone know where the serial number is located on the jackplate?

1 Attachment(s)
the bracket that attaches to the cylinder shaft to the slide plate

Found the serial number and even though I am 2 weeks beyond my warranty they will cover it. Oh and I keep my boat At Bowtie so I guarantee that Doug will change it.
