Looks like it'd be an easy enough fix. Just too bad the truck isn't worth the airbags that need to be replaced.

MossLake 08-18-2011 01:26 PM

So, airbags ain't cheap huh?
Gotta have airbags?

southern151 08-18-2011 01:33 PM

Between the two, you're looking at $2500 +.

Ya don't HAVE to have airbags but, they were put there for a reason.

I'd also venture to guess that the frame rails are rolled down unless they were on the brakes real hard when they rearended whoever it was.

Hood, fenders, grille, core support, headlamps and bumper for sure. Likely gonna need an AC condenser and possibly a radiator/shroud and fan. A lot of variables but, again, I can't tell without better pics.

I wonder how much he found all the parts for? I'd bet around $3k. Just a hunch.

the 950$ would be worth it for the motor tranny and rearend if you needed one but that truck is not worth fixing..looks like the frame is bowed between the bed and cab

In all the wrecks i've been in not a single air bad deployed, and some were pretty rough. Not sayin you sholdnt have them, just figured i'd share.

They're by no means an exact science. I've seen em deploy when ya wouldn't have thought they would and not when you just KNEW they should have.

The problem is, if I were to buy this vehicle or another one with blown bags and put dummy bags in their place or even used bags, the liability is high. If something were to happen and there were no bags in place or used bags "should have"(see above) deployed, I could be held partly if not completely liable for damages to the person. All the disclosures in the world won't do much for you today with the way our legal system works.:pissed:

I'm not sure about all that. You would'nt be held liable if you got in a wreck and the passenger air bad was turned off?

Rebuilders to me, are a money pit anyway. Small cars that can be sold at "I've got the cash for it" levels do great during tax return season but, SUV's and trucks have never done me well. Had a dang nice dually for sale for MONTHS and wound up only getting a grand more than I had in it. Sounds alright unless you had to hang onto it for 6 months or so.

Call me picky but, factory parts on sensitive items is the way to go. If used/dummy airbags weren't a liability, insurance companies would be shoving them down our throats every time we turned around and, to date, I've yet to see a single used airbag from even the crappiest of insurance company.
