Gettin' a couple 45-70's
Myself and Dad are getting each either a 444 or a 45-70
Its a toss up between the .444 or the 45-70. Kinda like the .444, and I think my dad likes the 45-70. Tax free weekend next weekend :grinpimp: |
45-70 bullets are cheaper than the .444
My grandpaw just bought a thompson center .444 kicks like a mule with those 230 grain bullets. Put a nice bruise on my shoulder from sighting in. |
45-70 with the Hornady bullets with the conical tip make that gun an accurate 200 yd gun. Never shot a .444 but 45-70 doesn't have much kick. And if you are ever in BFE and happen to run out of bullets, there is a better chance the mom and pop store carries 45-70 rather than .444.

I figured that 45-70 has alot less kick. I'll probably be using the 45-70 75% of the season since I plan to hunt creek bottoms on our lease this year for some horns. Especially with the way this summer is, and my creeks have water, so Me and Climber are becoming best friends.
What scope would yall suggest? |

Everyone I know that has a 30-30 says its a good 'brush gun':grinpimp:. Even a .50 cal is going to deflect when it hits brush. I guess one or two people while running dogs in Union Parish took a pop shot at a spike in some brush and the got lucky and had the bullet deflect INTO the deer. Word got out after that it was a good brush gun I guess. They are still telling those stories and still fighting each other over which is the best: 30-06 or .270! |

You are correct..... They like em. Garrett hunted with his all year last season. I take mine other than primitive a good bit. Garrett shot a coyote 1st morning he ever hunted with it at about 125 yds, he said Daddy when i pulled the trigger that thing did a flip & a half before hit the ground
|
I plan to hunt mine all season. It sounds like I will love this gun. I plan to shoot a hog before season. So we shall see ;)
|
It's a beast to sight in, unless you have something like a lead sled to shoot it out of.

Of course if you hunt with my in-laws in Union Parish you are gonna NEED a .300 Win Ultra Mag, with a 20 power scope to shoot them 'big bucks' that show up 300 yards down the pipelines:rotfl: Most of the deer are less than 50 yards (under the feeder) and many are less than 50 lbs! |
