Power Pole ?

Thinking of buying a power pole. For you guys and gals that have one, I have a question: While the pole is engaged/down, does it ever get in the way of reeling a fish into the boat?

It can if the fish runs that way. Ive had to raise mine in the heat of battle

Finfeatherfur 09-02-2011 08:53 AM

Yes they can, but no more than a anchor line. I find it easier to engage a fish and fight that situation than it is to fight a fish getting wrapped up in anchor line. Push a button and it is up and out of the way. Have yet to find a button to move my anchor line out of the way! lol!

has anyone ever had trouble getting the power pole to hold on a shelly reef, such as diamond reef out V Bay?

Just installed Talon last week and used it this week. Best money ever spent. Fished 6'of water and it held perfect every time. Used it 20 times and made fishing so much easier. No more cleaning anchor or beating the boat with anchor. Best part is push button with one hand and can still hold my beer with the other. Had to pick it up once while fighting fish but like stated earlier it was so easy to hit the button. You will not regret it. Sometimes I just sit in my yard drinking a beer playing with the remote watching it go up and down :)

That is pretty funny, kinda like the power pole commercial. As to the Talon over the PP, my question then becomes, does the unit, which is all ways up, even if engaged, get in the way of casting, etc.

Have not had problem yet, it sticks up same height as my outboard. My boat is 24' so I have lots of room but I do not see an issue with it. Maybe with lots of people on the boat bottom fishing then maybe. It was a toss up for me also vs. The power pole. I called Chris with Chris's Marine and he recommended the Talon. Price was also way cheaper with Talon, bracket and remotes vs. the
power pole. Talon installed was $500 cheaper vs. Power pole

Power pole works great ...even on shell reefs..Talon may work just as welll ???All up to your preferance...

Two boats, two power poles (one on each boat) five years,,, caught bass, pan fish, trout, reds, black drum, flounder and crabs and not one time did the pole get in the way enough to piss me off or make me lose one single fish

bjhooper82 09-02-2011 10:18 AM

Power pole just came out or is about to come out with a new 10' pole called the blade.. Just something to think about. Also get on youtube and type in power pole test and see what they put the power pole through. Its pretty impressive.

Montauk17 09-02-2011 10:24 AM

Power pole is proven.....Hard to beat hydraulics on the power pole vs electronics underwater on the talon. The talon operates with a cable and pulley similar to a cable on a foot controlled trolling motor. Over time it will wear out,no doubt about it. Power pole is there for the long haul.

Never got in the way. Want/need two powerpoles. No more spin!

If you buy a talon make sure they mount it where trim tabs can be added if you wanted to later down the line. Talons drop straight down...if trim tab under it may not clear tab.

pmckee318 09-02-2011 01:36 PM

Ask Chicken how long his new Talon lasted, haven't heard of anyone breaking a power pole.
