Deer/Duck-St. Landry Parish
I have an opportunity to get into a lease for both deer and duck in St. Landry Parish, between the cities of Port Barre and Krotz Springs. I have never hunted in that area and was hoping I could get some feedback about the quality of duck and deer hunting in that area. The leasor/owner swears that the ducks are as good as Arkansas and deer are as good as Texas. Could I might get some unbiase opinions about this region that I know nothing about. Thanks to everyone.

Great area for deer. Lots of woodies. big ducks in the second split.
|
Was it inside the spillway. Cause it flooded when they opened the spillway.

Seen a lot of big deer out there on side of road can just imagine what's in the woods

Great Question

Dude I hunt with friends across the port barre highway from evangeline downs on two thousand acres.Man we slay the woodys and kill mallards all season last year we killed teal widgeon buffle heads and a pin tail in the timber. And the deer are big and thick ive seen some brusers out there.Eight years ago a guy killed a seventeen point.Thats a good area
|
A seven point? No disrespect but, is that a typo?
|
Ya that's a typo I ment seventeen point.two years ago my freinds little brother and two cousin's shot a 180 pound doe a buck that already shed its rack and a ten point with a twenty inch spread that scored one eighty all on the same day with the same gun off the top of the same oil tank

yea im from right around there. I believe the state record was killed not far from there
I meant, im from Opelousas. Not Port Barre |
A guy I know that duck hunted by me in the Kaplan area lost his lease this year and picked up a new duck lease lease in krotz Springs. He said the land he will be hunting on is WRP land.......Like any place you hunt, some areas are good and some are not as good within a given lease....

Whew! Thanks for clarifying! I don't knock anyone but, 7 ain't that great. 17, on the other hand, is wall worthy!
I have some old co-workers/friends that live in the area and seem to be quite pleased. |
Ya this is in opelousas at night the woods are kind of lit up from the casino
|
What is the name of this club as I am from Opelousas and have hunted on a few in that area. Some were good clubs some were not. Stay away from old two o clock hunting club. Also I wouldn't advise joining Lucky 12 hunting club either.
