It was expected and they have had a crew on standby for 3 months due to hurricane season. I think they will have a crew on standby for years to come during the storm season since this is to be expected.

This past May while vacationing in Perdido Key, Florida (between Gulf Shores and Pensacola) there was a crew of 6 people that walked the beach all day long looking for any evidence of oil or tar balls. They wore long khaki pants and work boots and carried shovels and nets and had 2 Kawasaki mules each pulling a trailer with a port-o-let on it. They said they were contracted with BP and would be there throughout the summer, maybe longer. Wonder what that cost???
