Texaco Cut Beware!!

Just got a call from a buddy that went through Texaco cut Monday and had their motor ripped of the transom on a brand new bay boat, they trolled over to see what they hit and their is or was the dredging piping across the canal on the channel side. They called wild life and fisheries and the sheriffs dept, they said that they had gotten four previous calls for the same thing, folks hitting the dredge piping, nothing was marked! Lucky anyone wasn't killed or seriously hurt. Don't know if this is still the case but as of monday it was.

sorry had to

Thanks for the info. I run through there often. That would make for an expensive fishing trip.

It is the first cut on your left headed south on the ship channel past turner's bay...

Dredge pipe about quarter mile south of the drilling rig is poorly marked too.

When we fished the big lake stop at the SFA series we hit something there also ... Thus was last year

BIGJ 09-14-2011 05:21 PM

Thats one heck of a lick. Hope he had insurance. Don't know why they don't mark that stuff.

He said wildlife and fisheries was going to sort it out and get back with them, sheriffs dept made a report also, everything was documented and pics taken. Really shook them up

specktator 09-14-2011 08:05 PM

Man I never like going through there. I don't do it often. If you don't stay right in the middle, you're screwed.

Capt.B 09-14-2011 08:22 PM

I'm telln ya some one gonna get paid!!! Jus glad everyone made it outa that safe!! Maritime law is nothin to play with....someone will lose their job over this too....mark my words!! I would also get the Coast Guard involved if necessary!!

Montauk17 09-14-2011 08:23 PM

Damn that sucks! I have only went through the cut one time and I idled the whole way.

Ray 09-14-2011 08:26 PM

I hit it once too. Posted pics on here.
LDWF hit it going 40 mph. If they can't get anything done, don't know who can.
I saw it just in time to throw her in reverse, then the motor died.
I was going just fast enough to go over it but not bust anything.
There was 2 small signs, facing the opposite direction that I was going.
Not enough, in my opinion.

deanobravo 09-14-2011 10:02 PM

damn that sucks, im gonna have to tell everyone I know that fishes big lake, that is dangerous!

Ray 09-15-2011 11:55 AM

It's been going on since the spring..

Suthrngntlmn 09-15-2011 12:56 PM

I saw the pipe blowing water up Friday, while we fished near the cut, but where is the dredge at? Glad I didn't hit anything with mine; brand new motor.
