Salt Dome Islands

Anyone had the chance to explore one of these? Weeks Island, Cote Blanche, Bayou Sale..First time on Cote Blanche and I have seen some cool places in Louisiana, but this is top five:) Reminds me of Mississippi, big live oaks, huge magnolias, ravines and creeks, but then you see an opening thru the woods and walk to it and there is Cote Blanche Bay.

Avery and Jefferson island are pretty too. Bayou sale is mostly brackish marsh, good bass fishing in there. The hammock area out of cypremort point was a big island at one point before the storms wiped it out. Still have some cypress stumps on the bottom that hold trout. :D

Belle Isle, south of Patterson is full of rattlesnakes... We broke down in the Calumet cut and limped over to a compressor station, the gauger towed us in after he did his rounds... He was very specific about not getting off of the elevated walkways while we waited...

that is one of the things i was told to watch out for, but didn't see any today or any snake for that matter. Plenty of hogs though, snuck up on a few and got to watch em act silly. Couldn't walk 50 feet without seeing some sort of armadillo, hog, rabbit, squirrel, or deer, pretty cool place

I use to work in the salt business. Went to the Cote Blanche salt mine several times and took an under ground tour once. There are some big deer on the island. There was one guy that did nothing but patol the grounds to keep people from coming on the property.

The island use to be owned by 2 guys that were in there late 80's......this was back 20 years ago.

I was on there legally:rotfl: Yeah, I was doing some surveys out there, but did make a run to the plant, and saw a big pulley and a cable running and i asked if that was for extracting salt, and guy said NO that is a shift change, they were pulling those guys up from 1,500 feet down mining salt! Really cool place for sure, be out there a couple more days, maybe them rattlers will keep at bay:)
