prien or biglake?

I wanna get a trip in tommorrow morining and can't decide whether to go to big lake or Prien area. The wind is horrible in lafayette, and That makes me think Prien. I have read on here that in windy situations, it might be better to go to prien area. Never been there though, and only been to big lake twice. New to inshore fishing and wondering if anyone might have some advice for me.

Also, all I know to use are gulp shrimp or live shrimp on popping corks. Any advice on baits/colors?

PREIN

Went to prien yesterday only 12 trout but they were all 18inches plus clear redflake doa shrimp under a cork. Fished around the port. Fished big lake wednesday 22 trout and a red under the birds but it was windy

thanks, I love this site! Are there any particular areas in prien to fish? I was thinking trying that lake, and maybe a run up to some saltwater barrier I see people mentioning. Is this barrier a set of locks or something? (I use google earth, and that's all i see 2 miles north of I10 bridge.

fish under the 210 bridge along the dropoffs, also accross from the isle of capri boat is another good area this time of year.

This is what I caught my fish on last weekend...fished near the channel in lake charles. We ended the day (11am) with 18 spex a red and a flounder.

My favorite area is around the port, lauberge area seemed yesterday the fish were about 50-60 feet off the bank we ran up by the salt water barrier caught 1 trout that was a throw back saw some people hooked up with redfish up there. If you go to the saltwater barrier go under the i-10 bridge head north when you get to the barrier you can go right and the "old river" runs back up there for about 2-3 miles its a little early for trout up there hopefully next front will turn the on but the reds have been biting.

thanks everyone, the wind seems to be getting worse, probably hurricane force tommorrow...naturally! The hell with it though, the worst day fishin is still better than the best day workin! Man I hope I get a flounder, never caught one before!

That or lafleur park under 210.

Shawn Braquet 10-07-2011 03:07 PM

i personally like I-10 launch, it'll put you rite in between the barrier and everything else, not a long ride to 210 bridge if you wanna fish the flats or drop off, only problem with I-10 launch is if the waters high you get your feet wet backing the boat in

bull1134 10-07-2011 03:10 PM

take the last exit before the bridge and the launch is right there huh?

this should help you out, all the black areas can be productive at different times of the year

Here is the saltwater barrier, fish to the south of where you would enter to go to the river

Went castnetting at Hog Island today and rode down to West Cove. Muddy and rough. I would stay north.
