GOTO baits

Was reading a thread on another site and became curious as to what anglers around these parts use when the fishing is tough and its hard to get a bite... I know locations differ and times of year differ but as a general topic... What bait is your goto when all others arent working (FOR FRESHWATER)??

I always have a C rigged fluke tied on for Toledo. Stick baits (senkos/big bites) are my goto on Calcasieu, sabine, Big Woods, and other small water establishments.

I use texas, wacky, and weightless. Was talking strictly fresh water.

Live swimps!! Lmao

Seriously, if I can't buy a bite I'll start throwing a 3" pearl white Gulp shrimp on a 1/4 oz jig head. I know I'll catch something.

Thats a good bait.
If the bite us on, I like a pop-r or chug bug.
Go to for me is old school, a lil' fishie on a jighead and a snap on spinner blade. Caught a lot of bass on that. I like watermelon senkos too.

depends on if i fishing for size or numbers. fun fishing and tourney fishing are different too.
Size = jig / pig, bruise w black pig or large creature bait. watermelon /candy.
Numbers = crank bait or spinner bait ,color depends on water / bait.
fun fishing = 1/8 oz white spinnerbait , sacalait will hit it too.
tourney fishing Buzz bait at 1st light ,crank or spinner to try to get a limit in the boat. Then Large creature bait to try to add lbs.

Montauk17 10-12-2011 12:28 PM

If I could only throw one bait it would be a zoom trick worm

Jordan 10-12-2011 12:38 PM

my go to bait is a fluke, any color, any size, any way rigged.

Garfish 10-12-2011 12:42 PM

1/8 oz white or white/chartreuse spinnerbait w/ a willow leaf /Colorado blade combo

4 inch plum crazy worm or crawworm Tx rigged

chartreuse mid range Bandit crankbait

EvinFord 10-12-2011 03:14 PM

When nothing is going right, I throw a Tx rig watermelon baby brush hog or 7" culrpit worm. Worked really really slow.

Jedi Lure Tricks 10-12-2011 03:33 PM

when things get tough, i will downsize my presentation. from a spinnerbait down to a beetle spin and from a big worm down to a 4 incher. my confidence bait on small, highly pressured waters is a yamamoto 9s-10-925. its a 4" yamasenko in watermelon red/seedless watermelon laminate, rigged weightless wacky on 8# fluoro. it gets me bites when not much else does.

yellow mouth 10-12-2011 04:31 PM

Weightless watermelon baby brushhog if the wind allows.

youu_whoo_whoo 10-12-2011 04:50 PM

Electricity or Dynamite...

naaaa.....j/k I prefer throwing topwater frogs, but I mainly use eather a white or a chartruce spinner bait.

lanefrost300 10-12-2011 04:58 PM

Sexy/Tennessee Shad Rattletrap in deeper water

Either a texas rigged curly tail (7.5" or 10.5") or a watermelon red, gold or black flake weightless 5" senko for shallower water or fishing structures

huntin fool 10-12-2011 05:42 PM

Topwater: Rebel Pop-R Black and Chrome

#'s- backwater tackle stik bait, june bug

size: 1/4 oz pbj jig with craw trailer.

Hydro 10-12-2011 07:46 PM
