Hail Call FINFURFEATHER

Jude has a buck down on his lease and can't find it. Texted me for a tracking dog but I have no idea but you do. PM me or call me on cell and I will give you his number. Or, if you know someone in the Dequincy area that he could call please let me know. I believe Jude is rather excited:D

Thanks for the help guys. No luck so far. Blood is spotty for 100 yards then quits. Think I hit him low in the neck

If you can't find him today it should be cold enough tonight that the meat will still be good. Hope you find him,I know the feeling not being able to find a deer. You won't be sleeping much tonight. :(

Well, 4 of us looked for 5 hours and couldn't find anything. This was him 3 minutes before I shot.

I wished I would have missed him other than wound him.:(:(:(

Jude, sorry I was not available earlier, but as discussed my son was playing in the semi-final game of the JV game which had us all pre-occupied. I have tracked a bunch of deer, and my little dog is pretty good, but like I said, a high power rifle shot to the neck is either dead in his tracks or lives for another day.

From all the information I got over the phone, I would bet this deer will be on someone's camera before the weekend. Remember the story I told you about my buddy's deer he shot twice - 7 days apart! Good luck and give me a call if I can help in the future.

Mother nature will always throw you for a loop. My uncle shot a doe in the neck last year and we did not find it till the next morning. Dead as a door nail with not much blood to track. I hope you find it,I hate the feeling of losing a deer!

Gerald 11-03-2011 11:07 PM

Jude, sorry we could not find the Buck.

There was not a lot of blood to trail. About 75 yards from the shot, there were 2 nice spots of blood. Then in the next 20 yards there were 2 or 3 drops before the trail stopped.

We looked in that area for hours but could not find where the Buck went. We searched every possible direction and checked ever tree top or pile of brush. We found some tracks, but they could have been different deer.

The last hour, I spent walking a grid search covering a 200 x 300 yards area in the general direction the Buck was headed. There was a creek ~ 100 yards away and I checked ~ 200 yards of it..... that was some thick cover along the creek.

Matt, Judes son came out with their Lab retriever. She is not a trained "Deer" dog, but Matt said she is great on finding Duck. Several time she acted like she was following a trail but did not "trail" for very far each time.

After getting home, I felt like I had walked 5+ miles through the woods.

DUCKGOGETTER 11-04-2011 07:48 AM

Sorry to hear that ya'll didn't find it

BassAssasin 11-04-2011 08:09 AM

Thats tough man, yea those neck shots can be tricky. My brother shot a 10 pt in neck and he lives 2 more weeks till my dad shot him. Same deal very little blood, if u don't hit jugular, spine, or wind pipe he will prolly live
