Trolling motor help needed?

I have an 18ft mako with 54lbthrust 12v trolling motor. when it is just me in the boat with little gear the boat does fine. but with 2 other people and big ice chest etc.. my batteries dont last very long. wondering if i should upgrade to 24v trolling motor or what. any suggestions welcomed. thanks

you can run 2 batteries on a 12v if you just need it to last longer or go 24v if if you need more butt to pull you around

Max out what your wallet can afford. I am currently hooking up a 24V system on my 19ft Blue Wave with a used TM and two rebuilt AGM batteries. None of it is brand new, but it will get the job done.

My fishing buddy told me, "It is better to have too much trolling motor, than not enough when you need it."

Thats true right there.get the most you can afford you wont regret it..I have a 67 motorguide on my 15' weldbuilt, no problem with grass in the pool. I also will be upgrading on my kenner. It has a 74 minnkota, it does the job but not quite enough. You can just add another battery w/a 24v trolling motor and not have to rewire anything just a jumper between each battery. I would deff. go 24v.

You could get 2 AGM batteries for now & see how it does for you, if it still not enough power then get a 24v motor & you will already have the 2 batteries you need.
