Need serious help in Hornbeck!

Ok guys, I need some input - good, bad, or ugly. Their is some property in Hornbeck coming up for lease and I went look at it yesterday, but only briefly. It is west of Hwy 171, rolling hils, lots of bottoms. Pretty good sign for the few spots I checked and saw one doe. In total it's right at 2600 acres.

My question is:
1)-Does anyone have any intel on the game in that area or currently hunt there
2)- Does the locals run all over the property like some places in LA using the property as their own?
3)- What are hunting clubs/leases charging for that area?

My current club is going to crap with the oil/gas wells coming in at record pace, and we mean nothing to the timber companies. We are losing property like a bucket of fried chicken in the projects!

there are lots of deer up there, we have a camp on toledo bend and see 10-20 deer every time we drive through

not sure about the locals but probably,

and as for price it might not be as much as you think

Let me know if you want to make this a "Salty Cajun" lease. Maybe a few of the guys from here would be interested in getting in. I live in Deridder and I know I would be interested.

I live in DeRidder too !!!!! GO D-TOWN !!!!!

i'd join... iffin its not too much.... most i'll pay is $500 per year and i bring my own stands and do my fair share of food plotting and tree trimming.. Hornbeck holds some nice bucks... I work with a guy that killed a 10 one day and a 12 the next day and missed an even bigger racked one.. ALL ON THE SAME STAND !!!! IM PUMPED !!!!!!

My sister and her husband have a camp just north of there. It got burned down a couple months ago, including the 4 wheelers.
They caught the guys who did it after they burned down some more places.
The kids were under the age of 18, so basically my sister and her other co-leasee's are up a creek.
They are still fighting with the parents to try and get what ever they can from them.
It is the same all over La. If you have a camp where the hunting is good, someone is going to hunt on it when you are not there.

I appreciate all the replies guys!

First, their is no way I can afford this place by myself, so I will be looking for people to join up in a club. Next, thier is know way to know if I get it, until the bid process is done.

It is 2600 acres and minimum bid is $5.00/acre. Not sure if I will get it, but it sucks they do the bidding right before hunting season. Really pretty property, almost reminds me of Tenn!

I figure the club would be 20 members at about $800/member.

Finfeatherfur,

Count me in if you get the place (assuming I haven't decided to join another club in the meantime). I was hunting in MS last year but I now live in Deridder and it's too far to go. I was just going to hunt West Bay because it's close to where I work and Fort Polk on the weekends because it's close to where I live. I like hunting in hills, especially under white oaks so the property in Hornbeck sounds good.

Do you have an idea of what rules you will put in place? I really don't care for clubs where you get one permanent stand and that is your one and only spot to hunt all year.....just gets really boring to me. I like to be able to move around and hunt fresh sign as I find it.

Be sure to get a few offshore workers in the lease. That will screw the local outlaws up if someone is always there...

just an fyi post. due to the issue of work turnarounds i just got out of a club that had 2460 acres and 30 members. we each had 2 stand areas and still had land that wasnt hunted. we also had a good set of rules that worked well. i like SKid didnt to much like being held to certain areas, but during bow season you had free roam of the lease, except you wernt able to hunt or infringe on someone elses food plots or feeding areas. if needed i might still have a copy of the club rules.
