Duck Cleaners Burns down ! !

The duck picker, Gordon, on Oyster Drive off of gauthier road across from abundant life fellowship burnt down this AM. Don't have any details but my brother in law just called me and told me. He was trying to bring our 3 limits of ducks there around 10 AM.

My cousin lives in the blue house next door. I will call and find out something.

Ray 11-13-2011 11:18 AM

7:30 am burnt down. With all the ducks from yesterday, and the money bag.

jchief 11-13-2011 11:19 AM

Sorry to hear that.

Is there still someone in Hackberry that cleans birds???

Ray 11-13-2011 11:19 AM

He lit a low fire under the wax pot and left to go dump the guts from yesterday.
When he got back, it was burnt down.
They are getting a dozer to push it down and will be starting to rebuild tomorrow.

how much money does he think he lost in the money bag? Hope he gets rebuilt soon. Do you know if he will clean birds in the meantime?

simplepeddler 11-13-2011 05:54 PM

As many birds as that man has picked, he should have a few hunters over there driving nails with him!

You appreciates oh so much a picker when there is none around! Makes the price paid seem like nothing.

I was thinking of getting a donation thread going for Gordon. I know that he would appreciate it and several of us use his service for our duck/goose cleaning. I will be happy to donate towards the cause.

What say you, Mods?

Also, are there any other duck cleaners in the Lake Charles/sulphur area in the meantime?

Ray 11-13-2011 07:42 PM

I am not sure what is going on. If he had insurance or not. But he told my cousin's husband he would start rebuilding right away.
He lost all his equipment, so I don't think he is going to be cleaning for at least a few days.

There wasnt much to his little cleaning building. Should be rebuilt very quickly.

I will check at the camp we have a duck plucker we dont use . I will see if they will let me have it . If so we can get it to the man so he can get a leg up on his buisness.

Duck picker said he would be back in operation on Friday. He was very appreciative of the new picker Trey dropped off. There were plenty of people helping cleanup the mess and it looked like they were going to start rebuilding today. Good on Kenner18 for thinking about his fellow man.

Heckuva show of humanity! While I hate to hear of such situations occurring, I truely enjoy hearing how a fellow man will extend a hand to pick another up!

Good job Kenner!;)

Have to thank Raymond for helping find the place couldnt have done it without him. Helping each other in a time of need is what life is all about. If more people would show acts of kindness this world would be a better place. Too bad the world isnt filled with the men and women of SaltyCajun, I think we have the market cornered on great people here.

Do alot of people really pay to get their ducks cleaned? How much do people pay for that? I mean its not that hard to clean a couple of limits of birds... Obviously I feel bad for the guy and am glad he is gonna be back in business soon I just didnt realize it was such a big business

PaulMyers 11-14-2011 05:37 PM

Very big business!

Raymond 11-14-2011 07:37 PM

Bob, you have the same opinion one of my lease partners used to have. We shot over 1,000 ducks per year for several years and after the second year he dropped them at the picker! What is your time worth? Not to mention that duck lice gimme the hebejebies!!
