Daughter's fiance' joined me yesterday starting in Turner's kind of late at a little after 8. After one drift headed south and saw a few sets of birds but they were all occupied so kept going. Got our first set of birds across from Hebert's and picked up a few on live shrimp/poppin' cork and glow/chart eels. But the bite was real light. Started working our way back north and I thought about switching' to a heavy spoon or something I could throw a long way to stay away from the set as far as possible and not spook the bite. Tied on a 1-1/2 oz. silver Kastmaster and gave it a try on the next set. Caught a nice red and then a nice speck and it went back and forth the rest of the trip. The single treble was easy to dehook. Future SIL was popping the shrimp but I was matching him with the silver plug. Ended up with 16 specks and 6 reds all caught mid-day under birds. Never once put the power pole down and didn't drift again. We had numerous double hook-ups. Just caught one under-sized and one sandy.
Northeast wind was 10-20 and gusty and water was muddy but the bite, while not great, was steady but paid off. A great Thanksgiving trip and we'll give thanks tomorrow watching the Tigers beat the hogs and eaten' blackened redfish and specks.
