There are some good study guides with practice test you can purchase on line. Get busy figuring out what you dont know or are not good at and study that.
Good Luck

Do you take the GRE at Lamar?

Smalls 01-13-2012 04:07 PM

Start studying now.....I dont know Mich about the new one, because I was one of the last to take the old one, but take some practice tests and figure out your weak points, then focus on those.

Good luck, and p.s., I made a 1240 on the old test after only studying a week. IMO, the new one is easier than the old. If you need any help, hit me up. Glad to help anyone goin into grad school. We need more people goin the extra mile.

Day 1 went down in the books... gonna try to devote 2 hrs a night to this 360 page study guide. lots of work to do. If i went in blind on this one i would've screwed myself.

Good luck, my personal opinion is that you either know the stuff or you don't, BUT the study guide will prepare you for the test format that way when you go take the test you will not be overwhelmed. The math part I would refresh up on geometry and that may help. The verbal part is ridiculous! Words you have likely never seen and dang sure don't know the meaning to! Good luck, what are trying to go into?

SaltERedneck 02-02-2012 12:49 PM

Advanced Practice Nusing.... Nurse Practitioner.

If you need any help with the trig....lmk

SaltERedneck 02-02-2012 12:53 PM

appreciate the help fellas. game plan is to have an idea what i am getting into.
Math is my main focus point.
Analytical issues and arguments shouldnt be hard as long as i follow the format.
Verbal reasoning may get tricky.... plan to freshen up on stem words.

My brother was accepted about a year ago and has made all A-B's. He was an RN for 16 years. He already has job offers and he's not going to graduate for another 18 mths or so. Him and a friend of ours is in the program along with 53 women. If he comes out of it without a divorce he's a better man than me.

hahah I already have one semester under my belt in grad school and it was a summer class soo it was all jam packed into 8 weeks . The first 3 semesters are book work, essays, tests, etc. the last year is clinical rotation..... soo we shall see. having a 2 year old isnt gonna help any.

I was into the Anesthesia thing but that went out the window when I analyzed my life situation.... I just have to stay focused on the task at hand.

SaltERedneck 02-08-2012 04:47 PM

for those who took it

do any of you know the max score you can make on this test?? i have gotten mixed answers. MSU calculates GPAx150+GRE= total score..... trying to calculate what i need to make on the GRE to surpass the requisite.

I have heard 1600. can anyone confirm. I need a 1200 total minimum on the equation.

1600 sounds right. If you passed nursing school, I would bet you would probably make a 1000 without even studying:) You got it man, and if you don't make the score you want, you can retake it. Good luck

Good luck on your GRE. I agree with another comment, if you had the diligence and smarts to finish nursing school then with just a little preparation you should do fine on the GRE.
Anesthesia is an overloaded field, not many jobs right now (been a CRNA 30 yrs and it's the worse I've ever seen it.). I think the nurse practitioner route is the right one because of more job opportunities.
