Looks like the wind is gonna lay

Just checked accu weather and it says 5mph wind from the south in bridge city tomorrow after work. I'm ready to get out there!

Ray 01-26-2012 10:01 AM

Did you check the salinity?

drjay 01-26-2012 11:37 AM

I'm seeing a salinity around 10 for Hackberry. What is poor, avg, good?

Ray 01-26-2012 11:39 AM

10 ain't bad, but not good either.
Probably be muddy though.

drjay 01-26-2012 11:39 AM

calcasieu river between 2 and 3. I'm thinking Prien might not be the best choice.

SaltERedneck 01-26-2012 11:55 AM

I wouldnt waste my time in Prien after this rain. IMO.

Ive never checked the salinity of anywhere. I understand why its important, and thats why we fish on the south end of the lake after big rains, but I've never seen that number posted, and wouldn't know what the numbers meant if i did. What numbers are considered good and bad, and what websites offer that info?

drjay 01-26-2012 02:39 PM

USGS salinity charts:

and thats even worse.

bmac 01-26-2012 03:08 PM

That second chart looks like Cypremort point most of the time.

Yeah you right when it gets up to 5 or 6 that's high for that area

mr crab 01-26-2012 03:30 PM

Checked the usgs site and no salinity info for sabine. Guess thats why nobody around here talks about it

jlincecum 01-26-2012 09:08 PM

if its 5 or less...........go somewhere else. would generally like to see at least 8 but the higher the better

That's what I like. Numbers! If it's 2 in the Calc River and 10.5 in Hackberry, it's not too hard to figure out which direction to point the boat. Thanks JLincecum.

terrible. wind was howlin. we launched at port neches park and ran across the lake (which was white cappin the whole way) for the LA shoreline. it was a little protected, but the water was dirty everywhere we stopped. Managed one red and one flounder. Not a skunk but dang close. Heading out in the morning to try again. Accuweather says 5mph, but them suckas have lied to me before lol

Kenner18 01-28-2012 08:37 PM

When I fish Sabine I use Intellicast weather ,and use Bridge City as the location . I get the tide info from tides4fishing.com ,and the location is Mesquite Point . Hopefully this will get you on the right track .
