Are these labor prices to high or is it normal

:eek:im going to be changing out my door and windows on my brick home, built in 73. I got a labor fee from the a contractor, his price was $575 to change out each window opening. I have 5 openings 2 in each opening $2875 and 1 small window in the kitchen, and $275 to change out the door and frame, 3 entry doors. $825
IS THIS NORMAL PRICING FOR A CONTRACTOR. HELP THANKS

If that's labor seems high but I would have to know what is on tge outside of your house , brick, stucco? Retrofitting doors and windows can be difficult. I know window world does replacement windows for around 200/ window installed! Give me a call tomorrow 225 610 4212 and let me know all tge details m I'll see if it is high or not

THATS JUST LABOR. MATERIAL IS LIKE 3500-4000 brick around window, and 1 entry door under the carport has wood. other 2 doors brick around them.

Are they removing any bricks to replace windows? Is there sheetrock up against window frame on the inside?

Yeah so you have the sheetrock return into the frame. Call window world they will be around 200/ window material and labor and they collapse the old frame and put the new one in from tge outside so there is no sheetrock repair and they come back with a small bead of silicone around tge frame to tge brick . That price they quoted u is high as giraffe tang

My house about as ol as yours same kind of windows my father in law is a contractor says it pita to change them something about the way they are installed

Alphaman, give Dave's Screens and Windows in Lafayette a call, I think they are on Willow. Local, family owned company.

They did my house a few years ago, removed old windows, replaced with new double pane and also installed two storm doors. They did a great job, and I know prices have gone up, but I bet they can beat that, materials and labor.

Good Luck

Gotta shop contractors. Seems like some of em are smoking something and just throw out a crazy number.

Tex Dawg 01-27-2012 12:28 AM

There are 2 types of windows, new install & replacement windows. New install has a nailing fin around window & is installed on a new house before brick or siding is installed, to install these, the brick will have to be removed. Replacement windows are installed from the inside & the frames are thicker than standard windows & this is where they are secured to the frame of the house, so the sheetrock around the opening has to be removed & will have to be trimmed out after installation. The price for labor sounds high, but if they are removing brick, it may be right. I did all mine from the inside, much faster install in my opinion.

If materials are included.Price is close.Just rember price does depend on how much the window's and door cost.If using contractor grade materials,I would say the window's are just a little high.

coby123 01-28-2012 10:05 AM

P.S. window world is high.Personaly I do not like their work.
