Help constructing duck pond

Interested in digging out a duck pond for the upcoming season. I plan on planting it and flooding when the time is right. I am looking for suggestions on pond size, shape, and depth. Money is no problem, neither is space. What yall got???

6 inches of water on millet. just don't make a perfectly round pond. if there is a lot of water in the area it doesnt have to be a huge pond, but if there isnt much water in the area make it as big as you can

Keep it shallow, I would maintain it around 6, no deeper than 10 inches. I would make it as big as possible

Hi Guys.

Depends were its @. If you are in the marsh with no ponds around. 1/2 acre to 3/4 acre is way plenty. I've seen us take a S--t load of ducks out of small potholes when the winds blowing. I agree with keeping it swallow. But you want the keep water on it all year round. If not; your marsh grass and whips will take over.

Why would u dig? Easier to pull levee and install gates, assume u will pump on and off?

If you will have a Water pump install a water level gate... All the ponds we have at my place I just pulled levees but every year we plant something different in each spot..Last season we had flooded corn in pond A and this year we had milo in that pond. Corn you want 12-14 inches of water... Milo you want 8-10 inches... ( Depending on millet)Millet 6-8 inches and soybeans 10-12 inches.. We
Also planted Duck Dreams a new variety seed coming and it was just fantastic had 12 different food sources in it you had to keep that water at 6-8 inches as well...

How do you avoid the baiting regulations?

I'm pretty sure that as long as you don't cut it down or trample it, its ok to hunt over it. Am I wrong?

Natural crop and Can't touch it....!!! You use to have to make a attempt to harvest but as long as you don't touch it it's fine

Cool, my buddy has a pond and got some conflicting responses from W&F.
I'm going with your interpretation, Thanks.
