just taking a rod break and thought you might like to see a truly fine reel from the past, if this reel could talk it would moan and tell ya how many specks it has hauled over the side for it's daddy stix"i had it mounted on a 6ft6 spiralmed action" with a nice fast tip for top water plugs, i could truly make a plug do the dance with a rod like that one, this is a nice reel i had about 8 at one time, i only have i believe 3 left now, funny how things just up and walk off in the night:*****: kinda like my ex wives. hope you enjoy the reel i almost forgot it's a amb 1500 :)

ancient !!!!

billystix custom rods 09-09-2009 04:03 PM

it is approx 40 plus years old, they only made a few of them as best i remember the cost on them at that time was around $30 seems like to me that someone a supplier ran them on close out at i want to think it was around $12 or $15 and i ordered all they had i believe i bought 26 of them at one time because at that time i was pres of the fishing club and was always looking for stuff for our monthly meeting's but i know that i kept 10 for my self and i already had 3 or 4 i used to be a rod junkie, i would buy rods and reels just at random as well as build them for my self.
of intreast to you readers in the last 3 years i have sold over 125 rod and reel oufits just to clean out my garage i had one complete wall that was totally nuthing but rods and reels i had at one time well over 225 outfits but i gave a lot away to a young man i work with and my son and grand son i now only have approx 60 left i havent counted them so it's just a guess :*****::*****::*****:yes i truly am the rod freak ,but i told my self one day i will have all the rods i want and sure enough i do, i will take a photo and show you if i can.

Ambassadeur open face reels have been around a very long time and are dam good reels. I have a few old 5500C's past down from my grandfather. Do not use them anymore only admire them. No tellin' how many fish have been put in the box from these reels.

still use my red and black ambassaduers. bought five of those ultracasts back in the mid 80s, they're still in the box around here somewhere. they tough but heavy...SK

billystix custom rods 09-09-2009 05:45 PM

yes
i agree they are heavy and i have others as well, like i said before i am a rod and reel junkie, or at least i used to be i hardly have time to fish any more so i just watch and listen but i still have a lot of other reels still laying around the house, i prefere a low profile reel over the amb but i would still buy one every now and again :*****: i guess i was trying to keep the ecomany up but then came the dark age and it went to the food stamp card. :*****:

almost looks like our shop, except we don't have a reel for every rod lol

OK Stix , I gotta admit I have an old reel addiction. There I admit it. I've fought it for years but anytime I see an old reel for sale it seems to find its way home with me. My favorite is an old direct drive Pflueger bait cast with jeweled bearing covers and engraving mouted on a all steel;True Value; rod with soldered on guides. Very cool looking got it on the wall in the living room. I have a very understanding wife.LOL:) Will try to post a pic later. ...SK
