Grand isle around the 1st

Hey guys coming to y'all to see what's been going on in the grand isle area. I will be down there the 30th-1st so I'm starting now to plan where to go exactly and what to use. Please let me know what is doing the best...

Thanks!

There's no fish there since the oil spill.....don't go unless you wanna rent my camp, then the fish will be there for sure!!!

wade the surf... fish south barataria bay reefs, four bayou pass, caminada reefs.

Live shrimp if you into live bait

sparkle beetles, doa shrimp, and grubs if you like artificial. sometimes popping cork sometimes not

If u are going the 1st of April? I'd fish the second small bridge leaving the sland , if there is bait working by them drains you will smoke the flounder and trout

meaux fishing 03-20-2012 10:03 PM

I was thinking the first of june cause thats when im goin... disregard my info

Fish all 3 bridges before the island The 2 bayou thunder bridges and the elmers bridge .
live bait will help if the bite is off a bit .

fishinpox 03-20-2012 10:18 PM

The one im talking about is the one behind Elmer's . Right e man?

eman 03-20-2012 11:13 PM

elmers is the first one leaving the island, The second is bayou thunder as is the 3rd. bayou thunder just runs under La1 ,around the sake pit and then back under la1. Current will be running in different directions at the bayou thunder bridges.

Yeah I have murdered the trout there this time of year. The amount of bait in those ditches is crazy!

x 1000000

If you know how and where, you can limit out on flounder any time of the year in this area. Live bait can be an equalizer if you want to catch a few this time of year.

Thanks guys s y'all would say that no boat would be better. I have my 22ft century if I would do better on a boat. Just wondering.

Garfish 03-22-2012 09:29 AM

If the wind's bad and if you have the boat, fish in Leeville. If the wind's light try the oyster reefs in Caminada or Barataria. Might get on some early season trout.
Without a boat is a good option too. Depends on you though. Winds and the trout can be tricky in the spring.

Ok y'all have given me a ton of useful info. Thanks. When it gets closer if anything changes please let me know. The boat is in grand isle so I will determine the best option when I get down there.

Thanks!

Just to give an update. We went. Batteries were dead on the boat so we didn't get out till about nine am. We headed north of the island to the islands behind it. Fished a bit caught nothing. Went over to the set of small rigs caught 4 or so. And then went east a little more to the channel that goes north fished the cut for a while with little luck we were about to give up and call it a day and then my brother hooked one. Which got us to stay longer there. We pulled in a few more. So all in all we didn't do great. Had fun out there on the water. I will be going again weekend after next. Any suggestions again?
Anything that I should do differently?

I'd hit the same areas again. The trout are in transition from the marsh to the surf. May wanna try areas toward the passes and oyster reefs. If you can get live shrimp, you'll probably score. At least you got to go and do some scouting and catch a few. Good luck next week.
