Suzuki or Yamaha???
 

Opinions needed on 150 hp. Which one would someone go with? And why?

For a 150 hp four stroke I would get the yamaha hands down. That is their best and best selling motor on the market. BTW, I have a yamaha 150.

Both are very good motors. I would go with the brand that has better service in your area. Suzuki has a little more low end grunt,they use a lower gear ratio on their lower units.

Both are sold by the same dealer.

In that case I would go with suzuki. I am a big yamaha fan but I prefer the low end grunt and overall performance with the suzuki 150 four stroke class.

I have been told that a 150 on a 21 frontier was underpowered but is $6,000 dollars worth going to a 200??

100% YES!!!! Always put the biggest motor possible.

I went from 150 2 stroke mercury to 175 suzuki 4 stroke on a 21' kenner. I love the suzuki. Plenty of power and great on gas. I went with suzuki over yamaha because it was $1500 cheaper plus better warranty. I also talked to alot of commercial fisherman and they had nothing but good to say about the suzuki.

I love my suzuki... runs faster than the comparable yamaha on the same boat and is quieter. Its pretty much ford vs chevy debate though. You really cant go wrong with either.

What about a jack plate? Is it worth the money? I am thinking about 21 frontier but was told by a few people get trim tabs and don't spend extra money on the jack plate? Just trying to get a good feel on what to spend money on?

depends on how much shallow water you fish and whether or not you like to idle till you get to deeper water. In my 24ft triton I can bury the tabs and pick up the jackplate and get on plane in about 1.6 ft of water according to my GPS and run in shallower than that

i dont run a jackplate on my 22 blue wave and havent had any reasons to need one yet. The tabs can do wonders with that light boat just like mine. I have been extremely happy with my 150 suzuki

Yes it is worth it IMO.

My cousin has same frontier without trim tabs, mine has them, and I can out run him.

Personally I would get the 200. I ran mine yesterday and was doing 28 mph at 4000 rpm.

Don't really need the jack plate, but I have hoped up in 13" of water with it and my trim tabs, but I recommend the tabs over the jack plate.

Zuk will put you on plane a lot quicker than the Yamaha. The lower gear ratio will make a world of difference when you have your boat loaded down/ when you are trying to get over the tops of waves if u get caught in some Nasty **** at the close rigs/ or when pulling tubes skier etc. I'm a zuki fan and if I could swap my opti for one I'd do it in a heart beat.(I have been very happy with the opti) I'm also a yamahamma fan but have been in identical boats with the same horse power with zuk 150 and f150 and the f150 seemed somewhat sluggish making the boat feel underpowered. (boats were 2200 nautic stars) Either way you will have a great motor that will provide reliability.

Hands down Suzuki is the route to take.
Had a Suzuki before and if i ever go back with the 4 stroke route ill have a Suzuki again.
