Morels

I know they don't grow in LA, but I thought I'd share some pictures from this past Saturday. My grandma and I hit one of our honey holes and we hit the mother load. We found 242 in the first spot and only eight in the second spot, but the guy who lives there said some folks had already been back there that morning. It was easily the most mushrooms I have every found in one day. I hope you folks enjoy the pictures...

Nope, I don't think those grow around here. These taste really good when you cover them in flour with a little salt & pepper and fry them up. They go even better with some fresh bluegill, or bream as you call them.

Nice haul. They don't grow in cajun country but can be found in the state. For sure in the Felicianas and perhaps the piney woods around Kistachie northward. I found a few summer oysters and boletellus recently but they majority of the area I pick in is under water right now. Should be a good bloom of stuff when things dry out.

I was gonna say Rat Dog would be proud of a shroom haul like that.

Any idea what kind are these mushrooms. I took the first 2 pictures last week in the Basin. The last picture was taking in my yard.

Most imporant... can you eat any of these?

.

Goosepond Monster 04-02-2012 03:27 PM

No clue. I just know I wouldn't try eating them.

I thought those only grew in the northwest and the Carolinas?

I loved looking for morels up in WA. We used to go a year after a fire hit and we would find tons!

I recently bought a JVC Adixxion Action Camera. I made a few videos of our morel hunts this year. They are on my YouTube link below.
