I've looked up on YouTube how to do this and watched several different ways. I was wondering if anybody on here does it and can share the way they make there's.

I cut them a foot long and put a garden hose thru the center. First time I didnt and lost a huge gar that ripped the string thru the foam. Some use pvc pipe. But an old hose is free. I use 2 ft of string and a stainless hook.

I made mine out of PVC, with swimming pool noodles wrapped around them. capped them off with a bolt on the inside. Put a small eye bolt on one side siliconed around the eye bolt. Start off with bolt on the opposite end of eye bolt, fish pulls on line, pulls end down bolt slides and when you have a fish on it stands straight up. Kids love it.

Get you some of those swimming pool noodles with the hole that runs through them, put a piece of pvc pipe or hose through the hole to make it more sturdy, run your string through the pvc pipe or hose & tie it with the knot staying as close to the middle of the noodle as possible. Like this when you pick them up, you just wrap the string around the noodle and hook the hook into the noodle wherever it falls. Very quick to setup and even quicker when you pick them up.

We use 1/2'' pvc through center then pass string all the way through pvc and tie back to itself, make sure you use plenty of weight on you line though as the wind blows them fairly easy.

we use crab trap floats and have a swivel and attachment piece where we can take the wieght off the bottom (this is what tangles you up in storage if you don't take wieght off)........then you take string and wrap around float sticking hooks in float. makes a very easy job when putting them out and they stay untangled

i use pool noodles with pvc through them also. i use duck decoy weights so when i pick them up i just stick the hooks in the foam and then fold the weights around the noodle. keeps them from tangling. and you can get 4oz decoy weights pretty cheap.

Good ideas we just get old Gator Aid and 2 Liter Coke bottles. Paint them orange tie about 2 feet of line on them with a mustad hook and throw them out.

X2. I cut mine down with a jig I made and homemade hot wire cutter. This makes storage a lil bit easier avoiding tangles.

If ya decide to use the crab floats let me know. I'll tell ya how to make the hot wire cutter to shave em down. We used to do them by hand and it would take about five minutes for one. Now I can knock em out in about 30 sec/piece.

I made these with Tru-turn catfish hooks. Them suckers pit up a fight to get a fish off. I want to make about 40 more but can't find them anywhere. Does anybody know where they can be found?

i make mine with the thick pool noodles and slip a piece of 3/4" PVC in the middle. the first pic is the noodle rolled up. the second pic is it stretched out. the third pic is how i put my hooks on. basically i make a small 2 hook trotline. i put at least 2 oz of weight on the end and make them from 8 to 10 feet long. they work perfect for where i fish. they stay right where i put em. i also have some about 16 foot long with 3 hooks and more weight on the end for fishing in the deeper part of the intracoastal just before the drop off. i have at least 4 oz of weight on those and they stay put with tugs passing and with a live bream on 1 hook

How long are the noodles cut ?

cmcnabb 03-28-2012 07:28 PM

12 to 14 inches. I try to keep them 12. The noodles were 5 foot so I could make 5 per noodle

also good if you have a lot of gators around. the can't crush it or sink it

I use the swimming pool noodles

The absolute best advice though is to use CIRCLE HOOKS;) Catfish have tough mouths and you will catch twice as many with circle hooks. The pool noodles give too much to allow for a good hookset. The fish catches itself with the circle hooks with very little tension
