Nice mess of fish right there!
That's my old stompin grounds. I learned to fish there on that lake. I miss the hell out of fishin there.
Believe it or not, the best bait for those hybrids on False River are live grass shrimp. We used to catch a load of em bream fishing. They would hit your line and the drag would be screaming on those Zebco 33's. Also we caught a lot of catfish in the shallows this time of year when we'd fish there. Are the chinquapin still runnin big out there?

eman 03-31-2012 08:18 PM

Very few chinquapin since the lake silted up . No grass in false river any more thanks to the powers that be.
I did see one chink at least 12" long caught the other day off a pier.
The catfish are running good and will only get better for the next couple of weeks, just finished cleaning 14 . all caught on crickets while bream fishing, cat fish and hush puppies for Sunday lunch!

Lots of red meat in em . about like cleaning a redfish just more red meat.
I don't keep em anymore but they sure are fun to catch.

thanks for the report....

Good Catch.
I am glad the last few years they been stocking the river with hybrid stripers.
To me those fish are more fun to catch than bass and they pull like freight train.

pokerface12 07-05-2013 12:15 AM

too fat to be stripers......my guess are hybrids....where I'm from they are call wipers...a cross between white bass and striper. Thanks for the report...I haven't had much time to fish since moving here from Ca....but you report has inspire me to give flase river a try when I do have some free time.
