Grab rail came loose.....can this be welded???

It looks like the nut(still on the boat) was welded inside the rail. Can't tell if the rail is stainless all the way through or not, but I cant find anyone to weld it for me......suggestions around the Laffy area???

To test the metal......use a fairly strong magnet. If it is a low grade of stainless, you will feel some pull with the magnet.....maybe about 1/3 as much pull as for carbon steel.

If it is high grade stainless [316 or higher] there will very little to no magnetic pull.

The picture looks to be Chrome platted..... ie. it looks shiny where stainless steel usually looks dull in color.

Tthat will have to be TIG welded..... it's going to take longer to set up than to weld it.

Stainless or Chrome plated.....either way, it's weld able.

Get you a couple sticks of inconel TIG wire and weld her up. Don't worry bout the material long as it's not aluminum.
