Need good advice

I have a 1958 marlin golden mountie 22 lever action .
the gun spent the last few years out in a storage room before i got it.
The reciever, lever, loading tube and barrel all have various amounts of surface rust, ( more so on the barrel.)
My question is will i lesson the value by brushing. steel wool and reblueing?
Is blueing the best way (cheapest ) to go?

Lots of oil and a light brush would be my first step.

Stainless steel wool is softer than the blueing, but harder than the rust. Use that. It'll take the rust off without damaging what's under it. Use the finest you can find.

If I were you I'd talk to somebody that restores guns professionally and see what they say.

Check with Mike Brazda with Bayou Teche Guns in Arnaudville
He is the best gunsmith in LA. I would trust he could lead you in the right direction.

They always say on Pawn Stars if you mess with the patina it will lessen the value ;)
