Old River Dam 5/8/12

4 Attachment(s)
Went to Old River Dam today fished 3 hours. I ended up keeping 17. Lots of little ones thrown back. All were caught on triple tail 2in soft jigs in blue with white tail at 3ft deep. At first I was missing a bunch that were hitting when I popped the cork. I finally switched to a balsa wood tube float. The sacs where picking up the bait and not pulling the float under. When the float would lay flat I would set the hook. I would of like to know how many I could of caught if I would of changed floats 2 hours prior. The water was the black and clear.

They are just about every where. You just have to figure them out. I like fish them cuz they can be the easiest and hardest fish to catch in the same hour. Look they rarely make the freezer at my house.

Its heaven. I rarely see another boat there. 2 boats in the last 4 or 5 trips. You cant get on a plane. I broke my live well in take screen off the boat and popped my transducer loose a few times. A breakaway transducer mount is a necessity. I almost flipped the boat twice today on logs just going at off shore trolling speed. You better have a push pole to get you off of logs and trees that are just inches under the water. It is not a place for fiberglass boats.

You got me on this location?! Don't know where the heck that is!?! Glad to see you pulling some in the boat. I never really had any good luck catching sacs on the river. I have tried and I just end up bass fishing. If you would ever like a fishing partner I would like to tag along! I would really like to be taught how to figure them out!

I'm thinking it's the old Sabine River near Bancroft/Merryville.

Saute86,

Those are some pretty pics. Congrats on the Sacs.

I live in Deridder, where is Old River Dam, is it off Sabine River?

Sorry, didn't see the previous question.
