Trolling motor impact on speed

Have any of you tested your boat with and without the trolling motor on the bow?

chasin'tail 05-12-2012 10:39 AM

Do you mean weight of TM slowing you down? No, I guess I always have on the boat for fishing....

T-Bone 05-12-2012 10:44 AM

Trolling motor and battery located in front of my flat boat actually helps weight distribution when I am by myself. I would say the extra weight helps with porpoising and allows me to run WOT.

alot of tourney guys have the quick relaese bracket behind the leaning post for making long runs , so the tm dosnt get beat to crap on the bow if its rough its a smother ride in the rear

Correct. If I remember, he said it was 3 or 4 mph difference

For 22foot plus bayboats that is what I have always heard as well, 2-5 depending on how much bow rise your boat likes. I am asking in relation to a 2000LBs plus 23-25 foot bay boat.

I am considering the quick release option for my next boat.

If you're into running wide open I would get the brackets. Speed and it protects the trolling motor.

Just remember, you'll have to buy 2 complete kits unless they started selling the bases separately. In the past you were not able to buy just the base.

I fished out of Capt. Brent Juarez's boat on Monday and he had a separate trolling motor bracket mounted in the rear of his boat for running, but he runs like a bat outta hell fishing tourneys. Have also seen several other tourney boats with two brackets around TX. The Majek guys say it costs you 3-5mph when you're running and gunning.

Don't know how applicable it would be for what you're talking about although I know you're not a slow poke. :)

It is looking like I will trade it in on BlueWave 2400 with a yam 300. Grey all around and black underneath with racing seats like my Haynie. I just want a little bigger boat.

When you look at the two boats in person the difference is very noticeable, I also owned a Purebay before I bought my Haynie.
